Admissions
The Application Form may be found on the WCLU Website. As all courses are taught in English, students need to be proficient in English as WCLU does not offer an English as a Second Language Program at this time. Individuals seeking to apply to the WCLU should submit the following items:
a) A completed application
b) Admission essay
c) 2 recommendation letters
d) 1 digital photo
e) Application Fee
f) Official proof of high school graduation such as a Diploma or GED Certificate.
The letters of recommendation may be written by a High School administrator or High School teacher, a Pastor or someone from the local community who knows the applicant. Recommendation letters by persons related by blood or marriage to the applicant are not accepted. For applicants who were home schooled, a letter may be requested from the applicant’s local School District office. In lieu of a High School Diploma, GED Certificate or letter from the School District, applicants will be asked to write a special essay. The topic will be selected from a short list of themes provided by the WCLU’s Admissions Office. The applicant can either go to a specified location to write the essay, where it will be proctored or, with permission, they can write the essay at home but arrangements will need to be made for it to be proctored. The applicant can discuss this with the Admissions Office. All applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Office and the Admissions Director will communicate the decision with the applicant as soon as possible.
For those applying to the Master’s Program, official transcripts from the applicant’s undergraduate degree should be submitted and for applicants to the Doctoral Program, official transcripts from the applicant’s graduate degree program should be submitted.
If you have questions regarding admissions policies and student services, please contact Ms. Damary Butler in the Admissions Office at (718) 742-0092 or by email at worldwideclu@gmail.com.
Transfer of Semester Hours into WCLU
The transfer of semester hours policy for WCLU requires that the WCLU student first speak with the Admissions Office. The Admissions Office will give the student a form to complete in which they list the course(s), degree program and credits or semester hours that they wish to transfer into their Program with the corresponding course(s) offered at WCLU. The form will be reviewed by the Academic Dean. The student will be notified as to if and how many semester hours will be transferred into their program. Students in the BA program may request to transfer no more than 15 semester hours into their Program. However, if the student in the BA Program wishes to request Life Experience semester hours, they will not be able to transfer course semester hours from another program. Applicants to the Master’s Programs and the Doctoral Program may transfer no more than 12 semester hours.
Life Experience Semester Hours
It is understood that learning of an academic nature can take place both in the classroom and outside of the traditional classroom and that university credit might be awarded for such learning if the learning outside of the classroom can be authentically demonstrated by means of a portfolio. WCLU values such learning and recognizes the role synergy of theory and praxis in the life of higher education. That is why WCLU makes it possible for students with strong life experience to receive credit for that work and experience. Therefore, for those students in the Undergraduate Program wishing to receive Life Experience semester hours need to first meet with their advisor, who will then give the student the template and guidelines for the Portfolio. Generally speaking, the Portfolio will consist of an introductory essay that clearly notes the knowledge and skills that the student gained from their life experience. The remaining content of the Portfolio will document the prior learning experiences in chronological order and, as much as possible, link that experience with courses taught at WCLU. Only students in the BA programs may apply for Life Experience semester hours. The maximum number of semester hours given for Life Experience is 30 semester hours.
